STITCH SAVER TOOL
The tool is 6” long overall with a plastic handle. The metal tine is pointed and wonderful for rescuing dropped stitches, hanging hems and transferring stitches. Circular sock machine knitters will also find it useful for raising and lowering needles. Tine is bent at approximately a 45 degree angle and the point is about 3/4" from the bend. Remove weights from the knitting before lifting stitches to avoid bending the slender hook. This tool is similar to the Passap “dental tool” but not quite as sturdy. It is a little easier to handle than most real dental tools and not quite as pointed, though it should still be handled with care. $4 plus $1 postage. Mailed First Class
GREASE PENCIL
Otherwise known as a China Marker. This is a humble basic tool but can be hard to find. It is useful for marking needles for hand selected patterning (like cables) or sock heels. The bright orange marks come right off if you wipe them with a rag. For charting attachments that use a plastic sheet, the grease pencil can be used to draw the pattern, then wiped off and redrawn for the next pattern. It's hard to make a mark on already oily surfaces so wipe the area to be marked before using the pencil. $4 includes postage and careful packaging.
LATCH TOOL
Latch tools wear out, get lost and can be hard to replace. These have unfinished hardwood handles 3.5" long with bevelled edges and fit the hand comfortably. They are easier to manipulate than those with skinny handles. Available IN standard, mid and bulky gauge. Passap knitters will be most comfortable with standard gauge. Be sure to click the correct button for the gauge you want and check your invoice to make sure you are getting what you meant to. Each tool is $8.00 plus $2.00 shipping.
BULKY LATCH TOOL STANDARD LATCH TOOL MID-GAUGE LATCH TOOL MULTI-PRONG TRANSFER TOOLS WITH CEDAR HANDLES Handles are a little thicker than most, making them easier to grip and manipulate. Cedar portion measures 2” from base of needles to end. Available with 4, 6, 8, or 10 eyelets for standard gauge machines. Special sizes and other gauges can be made to order. $2.00 mailing per tool in the sizes listed. The correct paypal button is the one that immediately follows the size listing. 4 eyelet=$10.00, 6 eyelet=$15.00, 8 eyelet=$20.00, 10 eyelet=$25.00. |

40 NEEDLE TRANSFER TOOL pictured above
This is wonderful for making vertical darts on the standard gauge machine. It can also be used to move stitches from one bed to another as when making socks. Made of smooth steel and very sturdy. Comes with a cap [the white thing in the photo] that slides over the needles to hold stitches down and prevent dropping. This is a really nicely engineered tool and a pleasure to use.
To make socks with this tool:
1)swatch to determine how many stitches are needed
2)cast on over that number of needles and knit ribbing for sock top.
3)transfer all ribber needles to main bed in the usual way.
4)knit 1 or 2 rows stockinette
5)Lift 1/2 of the stitches at either the left or right edge using the transfer tool and place the cap on the tool
6)Lower the ribber to allow a little room to work.
7)swing the knitting that is on the tool around so that the stitches can be loaded onto ribber needles that are opposite the knitter needles and do so. Lift the bed to knitting position when you are done.
8)rack so that the needles are opposite (P) and knit the foot using circular settings. [main bed knits one way, ribber the other so that the yarn knits round and round, forming a tube.]Short row heel and shape toe.
To make waistline darts with this tool:
1)determine how many stitches will need to be decreased to shape the area and how far apart the decreases should be. Most knitting software will do this for you painlessly but so will some simple arithmetic. Also determine how many stitches from each edge you want the dart to form. For example, it could be forming at needle 36R
3)every time a decrease is required, lift the stitches from 37R (example only) to the right hand edge of the knitting using the tool. Replace them on 36R and needles to the right of it. A gigantic full-fashioned decrease will have been accomplished. If more than 40 stitches need to be moved, a second batch may be be moved to sit next to the first. This saves many, many steps over the multiple transfers that would be needed using a 3 prong tool and is much quicker than doing the job with waste yarn.
$60.00 plus $6 shipping. Shipping includes insurance which is required for this tool.

SINGLE BED CAST ON COMB pictured at left A cast on comb can make knitting go much more smoothly. It gives a bit of extra control and a place to hang weights evenly. This comb matches every other needle on the standard or every needle on the bulky. It has sturdy steel teeth that do not bend like the old wire combs. Each comb has 20 teeth [a 40 needle span on the standard bed machine]. 2 methods of casting on with this comb are detailed below. 5 of these tools joined together will extend the entire width of the bed. Quick cast on: 1)e-wrap the desired needles 2)hang the comb on the e-wraps 3)pull all needles out to hold 4)set carriage to knit back from hold and knit the first row. Perfect cast on and blemish free knitting, even in difficult yarn: 1)Begin on waste yarn. 2)Hang these combs and weight if needed in the waste yarn. 3)Knit 1 row ravel cord. 4)Cast on however you wish with the main yarn. You may even e-wrap or chain stitch, knit a few rows, then hang a hem. When the piece is finished, pull the ravel cord and the waste will drop off, leaving a perfect edge. There will be no distortion of any knit stitches from the use of weights. If the 2nd method of casting on is used, these combs may be employed on any gauge of machine because they'll be hanging in the waste yarn and need not match the needle spacing. Each 20 tooth cast on comb [shown in the photo] is $16 plus $6 postage including insurance which is required for this tool. If you want to span the entire bed, order 5. When you order 5, please e-mail, letting me know whether you want the tools joined before shipping. Joining them makes the comb rigid and easy to handle as one big unit but a little less versatile. |
| Transfer tools and cast on combs above are available in other gauges by special order. Please e-mail with your needs. |
